My new GADGET

Apa dia??? Taraaaaa......

blood pressure monitor

Hahahaha...org lain new gadget handphone la...ipad la...laptop la...Aku??? Blood pressure monitor ;-P.
I got high blood pressure during pregnancy...& strange enough...after delivery pon BP still tak menentu. Kejap naik, kejap turun...

So, disebabkan BP yg tak konsisten itu, doc adv me to buy this product as he doesn't want to start medication on me because I'm still young.

Doc just adv me to monitor my BP at home.

Disebabkan family history yg mmg ada penyakit ni...so, I better be careful.

I think every house should have this product. Senang jer nak guna. And the price is not so expensive. Bought this for RM119 only @ Guardian.

Nota kaki: Tahun ni aku berazam untuk menjaga kesihatan. Tapi ubat malas nak makan, hahaha...

Akibat Salah Pilih, Mulut Jadi Mangsa

Lipstick dah nak dekat abes...so, last Fri kuar lunch, aku menyinggah la sat kat Watson. Tujuannya cuma nak beli lipstick. Terus la menghala ke counter Loreal.

Pilih punya pilih...so i decided to take this lipstick....

Loreal

Sekali pakaiiiii......baru pakai dlm 2 hari jer...mulut aku dah gatal-gatal...kering...merekah! Tension betol! Selalunya pakai lipstick Loreal ok jer...Kali ni plak buat hal. Rasanya maybe i cannot use lipstick yg nmpk shining kot...

Menyesal plak beli. Abes duit RM40 tak pasal-pasal!

Sebab dah tak tahan tu kan...pegi la clinic @ Subang Jaya. Doc gave me this...

bonjela

Tapikan....pakai bonjela ni lagi menyakitkan mulut. Rasa pedih yg amat!

Disebabkan rasa tak tertahan sgt...so, on Wed, I went to the clinic again! This time pegi clinic at my office. Doc said...bonjela mmg tak akan baikkan mulut if kena kes mcm aku. So, he gave me this...

Ubat ni mmg mujarab lah. Pakai 2 hari jer terus baik. Doc adv not to take spicy food...don't use lipstick for the time being...

And doc also adv me to buy this...

Vaseline. Untuk melembabkan bibir. Vaseline ni beli kat Guardian. Klinik takde bagi...Eh, asal klinik tak provide skali vaseline ni? Senang, tak yah la nak kena menyinggah Guardian beli...

Moral of the story...jgn la gatal-gatal nak cuba produk baru. Beli jer la lipstick yg biasa pakai!

Nota kaki: Bulan ni jer dah 10 kali aku pegi klinik. Everytime pegi kena bayar co-payment RM5. So kira la sendiri dah berapa duit abes for co-payment. Sib baek la aku ni keje...medical company cover (Mr Hubby company does not cover medical for family). Kalo tak...kira la sendiri if everytime pegi klinik charge RM30....10 kali pegi dah berapa??? Nak pegi klinik gomen utk sakit yg simple2 ni malas. Malas nak menunggu!

Musim demam...

ziqri demam

Last week adalah minggu "lemau". Lemau sebab aku demam, batuk, selsema, sakit2 badan, sakit kepala! Lengkap! Start ari Selasa. Wed MC. Mmg tak tahan. Sengal-sengal 1 badan. 1 hari terbaring jer. Simptom2 mcm H1N1. Pegi klinik doc kata bukan. Lega...

Khamis, Jumaat aku EL. Ziqri plak demam, batuk, selsema. Sampai 2 kali la pegi klinik sbb ari Ahad tu still tak elok lg. Skrg ni demam pon bukan boleh amek sambil lewa. Takut penyakit lain plak yg datang.

Arini nmpknya batuk Ziqri dah kurang. Flu still ada. Dia dah tambah sihat. If not...susu pon tak mau minum. Berat drop from 8.5 kg to 7.2 kg! Tak lalu minum sebab tekak sakit. Kesian anak ibu...Get well soon, my baby!

26 April 2010

Pegi private pulak!

Remember my previous post psl Ziqri kena tukar susu from cow's milk to the soy milk? Lepas tukar to soy milk, badan Ziqri still merah2 especially if dia sweating. Lepas tu pulak, bila dia minum soy milk ni dia ada constipation problem pulak. Stool keras jer. Kesian plak tgk. So, on Sat we bring Ziqri to see the paeditrician.

Memandangkan SJMC is the nearest to my in-law's house, bawak dia pegi sana la. Sampai paeds clinic 11.45am. Masa nak register tu org ramai yg amat! Terasa mcm kat spital gomen jer pulak.

Tgk lar org kat belakang tu. Walaupon byk clinic tapi org ramai yg amat! I rqst to see Dr Khoo. Rupanya...patient yg paling ramai adalah patient Dr Khoo. Kate nurse tu harus lar kena tunggu lg 2, 3 jam! OMG!

Lepas dah register, pegi timbang Ziqri. Weight 8.5kg & height 73.3cm. Tunggu skit punya lama sampai Ziqri pon dah tak duduk diam. Boring. Gilir2 lar kitorang dukung dia round clinic tuh. Udah ler susu bawak 1 botol jer. Sib baik pampers bawak extra! Dan nasib baik Ziqri tak "membuang" time tu. Cari room for diaper change takde. Toilet kanak-kanak ada ler. Ke aku yg tak jumpa? Sudahnya salin pampers Ziqri kat bilik menyusu.

Ayah layan Ziqri main. Cuba tgk kat belakang tu...dah takde orgkan? Org suma dah balik. Clinic tutup kol 12. Kitorang jer yg still kat situ lg! Kol 3 baru dpt jumpa doc. Lega...

Dr Khoo ckp Ziqri bukan kena eczema. Dia kena ruam panas. Tak tahan ngan panas. Tak boleh berpeluh. Doc jugak adv suruh tukar balik susu dia. Kol 3.30pm baru setel. Penat weh...lama tunggu!

So, now Ziqri minum Promil balik. And stool dia tak keras lg. Setel prob!

Jaundice

Ok, this time I want to share some info about jaundice & also my own experience. In my case, it was prolonged jaundice.

What is jaundice?

Jaundice is the yellowish discolouration of the skin caused by an increase of bilirubin in the blood. Neonatal jaundice is jaundice that occurs within the first month of baby's life.

Jaundice menyebabkan kulit Ziqri jadik gelap.

What is bilirubin?

Bilirubin is a pigment produced from the breakdown of red blood cells. It is then processed in the liver before being passed out into the stools.

Nak check bilirubin kena amek darah. Tgn Ziqri kiri kanan yg comel itu penuh ngan bekas cucuk. Aku kira ada lar dlm 16 tanda. Bukan takat kat tgn, kat kaki pon ada. Kesian sungguh. Paling tak tahan masa dia menangis bila nurse amek darah dia kat kaki. Berkali-kali cucuk darah tak jugak keluar. Keluar pon amat lar sikit. Tak cukup utk penuhkan bekas sample. Nak kena isi 3 tiub utk anta ke lab. Sampai aku yg tgk ni pon nak keluar air mata. Lepas dah berkali2 try tak dpt jugak, nurse suruh we all balik & dtg lagi after a week to get the blood sample. Nak check kot ada penyakit lain plak sbb Ziqri kena prolonged jaundice. Bukan takat darah jer dia test. Aku kena bagi sample air kencing Ziqri skali utk test!

How common is jaundice in babies?

Jaundice is very common and occurs in 50% of babies in the first week of life.

If I'm not mistaken, Ziqri kena jaundice on his fourth day.

What causes neonatal jaundice?

  1. Physiological jaundice
  2. This is the most common cause of neonatal jaundice and is harmless to your baby. The onset of jaundice is after the first 48 hours and will subside by the end of the first week of life. It is caused by the normal breakdown of red blood cells and the immaturity of the liver.
  3. Pathological jaundice
  4. The onset of the jaundice can be in the first two days of life. There is excessive breakdown of red blood cells which could be due to :
    • Incompatibility between mother's and baby's blood group (in mothers with Rhesus negative or Blood Group O blood). Aku darah O+ & Ziqri darah A+. Doc bgtau chances utk 2nd baby dpt jaundice pon high. Ni yg buat aku fobia nak preggy lagi. Especially bila kena prolonged jaundice!
    • Babies with G6PD (glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase) deficiency in their red cells resulting in their instability on exposure to certain agents. This occurs in less than 5% of babies. All newborns are screened for G6PD deficiency at birth. (See Appendix)
    • Infection in the newborn which makes the baby unwell and needs in-hospital treatment.

What causes jaundice in babies to be prolonged?

Jaundice is considered prolonged if persists for longer than 14 days in a term baby and 21 days in a preterm baby. Ziqri kena jaundice for about 21 days! This can be due to :

  • Breast milk jaundice - Babies on exclusive breast feeding may have prolonged jaundice. As long as the mothers are not taking traditional herbs, the jaundice will be harmless to the babies. Mmg terkejut bila baca exclusive breast milk pon boleh kena prolonged jaundice. Masa baca nih terus aku rasa tak konfiden nak exclusively breastfeed Ziqri. Lgpon susu tak byk.
  • Obstruction of bile flow from the liver into the intestine. This rare condition will result in pale coloured stools and dark coloured urine.
  • Congenital hypothyroidism - This condition occurs in 1 per 4000 babies. Currently the national screening programme of newborn cord blood for congenital hypothyroidism is an ongoing programme in all government hospitals and clinics.

What should I do if my baby has jaundice?

Consult your doctor or health nurse for a proper evaluation. Dlm kes Ziqri, disebabkan dia considered as prem baby & berat pon 2kg jer masa lahir, bila dia kena jaundice, dia dipindahkan ke NICU. Nasib baik lar aku anytime boleh visit dia dekat NICU tuh. Harus lar kan...kalo tak mcm mana nak breastfeed ;-). & nurse pon sgt baik hati tolak aku ngan wheelchair smpi tmpt Ziqri.
However, your baby is likely to be healthy in the following situations:

  • Term baby with no risk factor for excessive red cell breakdown.
  • Jaundice appearing after the first 48 hours of life and not increasing in severity.
  • Healthy, active and feeding well.

What are the danger signs that I should be aware of?

You need to consult your doctor urgently in any of the following situations :

  • Jaundice appearing within the first 24 hours of life.
  • Rapid progression of jaundice.
  • If the result of the newborn screening shows G6PD deficiency.
  • If previous babies in your family have severe neonatal jaundice.
  • If your baby is unwell and not feeding satisfactorily.
  • If there is presence of pale coloured stools or dark urine.

What would the doctor do?

Your doctor will assess your baby clinically, proceed on to relevant investigations and then institute appropriate treatment. He will advise you on the specific situation of your baby.

What problems can jaundice cause?

In neonatal jaundice in the first week of life, the indirect bilirubin component (bilirubin not processed by the liver) is usually high and this can reach a toxic level resulting in :

  • Deafness from damage to the part of the brain controlling hearing.
  • Brain damage causing other neurological disability (kernicterus)
Early intervention of babies at risk of severe jaundice will prevent this complication.

Mmg tak lena tido aku bila memikirkan kemungkinan2 yg jadik...Dah lar prolonged jaundice plak tuh. Tido tak tenteram nak tunggu result blood test & urine dia.

What are the ways to treat this condition?

There are two ways to bring down the bilirubin levels to avoid brain toxicity. These are :

  1. Phototherapy
  2. Your baby will be put under a phototherapy light unit. The blue coloured component of the light can convert the indirect bilirubin to a non-toxic product.

Kesian tgk Ziqri tido dgn pampers jer. Aku siap selimutkan dia ngan napkin sbb takut sejuk. Tp bila nurse nmpk dia suruh simpan napkin. Katanya kalo tutup2 lg lmbt baiknya! Ziqri masuk spital 2 kali disebabkan jaundice. 1st time dekat Sg Buloh & 2nd time dekat Selayang. Masa pegi Selayang tu siap naik ambulan lagi! Hahaha...merasa aku naik ambulan!

Note: You should not expose your baby to the morning sunlight for treatment as this is not effective and may be dangerous. Tapi aku jemur jer ;-). Tapi tak lar direct sgt ngan matahari. Bukak jer pintu & tingkap bagi cahaya masuk.

      2. Exchange transfusion
The toxic bilirubin level for term babies in the first week of life is usually taken as more than 20 mg/dL (340 umol/L). Exchange transfusion is used as a last resort to try to avoid brain toxicity due to severe neonatal jaundice. The levels for exchange transfusion will depend on many factors including the age of the baby and the cause of the jaundice. Doc ada bgtau, if jaundice teruk kena tukar darah. Mmg tak senang duduk aku bila pikirkan. Sib baek Ziqri tak kena!

Prevention

It is important to identify and monitor babies at risk of severe jaundice.
Early detection of babies with jaundice needs to be done to ensure early and appropriate intervention.

What else can be done for babies who had suffered severe jaundice?

All babies with high bilirubin level (20 mg/dL or higher) should be followed up in a paediatric clinic to check on the hearing and development. Some babies may need to be referred to the audiology department for a hearing test to exclude high tone deafness.

Brain damage due to severe jaundice (kernicterus} should be prevented. If it happens, the child should be referred to a multi-disciplinary team for rehabilitation.

Appendix

List of food, and, drugs to be avoided in a child with G6PD (Glucose 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase) deficiency as it may lead to increase red blood cell destruction and jaundice:

  • Food - e.g. Fava beans (kacang parang)
  • Certain Chinese herbs
  • Drugs (refer to your doctor for a complete list)
    • Antibiotics such as nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin, sulfamethazole (co-trimoxazole / bactrim)
  • Chemical
    • Naphthalene (ubat gegat) are not to be used on clothing
    • Methylene blue local application
Sgt lega bila blood test Ziqri ok. Meaning dia takde penyakit2 yg bahaya. And jaundice dia baik after 21 days. Lega yg amat sgt!

Measles

Memandangkan the other day Ziqri kena measles... Let me share with you some infos abt measles. Betol ke baby below 1 yr blh kena measles? Apa tu measles? Teruk ke? Kalo kena kat baby, apa nak buat?

What is Measles?
Measles, also called rubeola, is a highly contagious respiratory infection that's caused by a virus. It causes a total-body skin rash and flu-like symptoms, including a fever, cough, and runny nose.

Since measles is caused by a virus, there is no specific medical treatment and the virus has to run its course. But a child who is sick should be sure to receive plenty of fluids and rest, and be kept from spreading the infection to others.

Signs and Symptoms
While measles is probably best known for the full-body rash it causes, the first symptoms of the infection are usually a hacking cough, runny nose, high fever, and red eyes. A characteristic marker of measles are Koplik's spots, small red spots with blue-white centers that appear inside the mouth.

The measles rash typically has a red or reddish brown blotchy appearance, and first usually shows up on the forehead, then spreads downward over the face, neck, and body, then down to the arms and feet.

Is Measles Contagious?
Measles is highly contagious — 90% of people who haven't been vaccinated for measles will get it if they live in the same household as an infected person. Measles is spread when someone comes in direct contact with infected droplets or when someone with measles sneezes or coughs and spreads virus droplets through the air. A person with measles is contagious from 1 to 2 days before symptoms start until about 4 days after the rash appears.

The most important thing you can do to protect kids from measles is to have them vaccinated according to the schedule prescribed by your doctor.

Prevention
Infants are generally protected from measles for 6 months after birth due to immunity passed on from their mothers.

For most kids, the measles vaccine is part of the measles-mumps-rubella immunizations (MMR) or measles-mumps-rubella-varicella immunization (MMRV) given at 12 to 15 months of age and again at 4 to 6 years of age.

Measles vaccine is not usually given to infants younger than 12 months old. But if there's a measles outbreak, the vaccine may be given when a child is 6-11 months old, followed by the usual MMR immunization at 12-15 months and 4-6 years.

As with all immunization schedules, there are important exceptions and special circumstances. Your child's doctor should have the most current information regarding recommendations about the measles immunization. Measles vaccine should not be given to pregnant women or to kids with untreated tuberculosis, leukemia or other cancers, or people whose immune systems are suppressed for any reason.

Also, the vaccine shouldn't be given to kids who have a history of severe allergic reaction to gelatin or to the antibiotic neomycin, as they are at risk for serious reactions to the vaccine.

During a measles outbreak, people who have not been immunized (especially those at risk of serious infection, such as pregnant women, infants, or kids with weakened immune systems) can be protected from measles infection with an injection of measles antibodies called immune globulin if it's given within 6 days of exposure. These antibodies can either prevent measles or make symptoms less severe. The measles vaccine also may offer some protection if given within 72 hours of measles exposure.

Vaccine Side Effects
Measles vaccine occasionally causes side effects in kids who don't have underlying health problems. The most common reactions are fever between 6-12 days after vaccination (in about 5%-15% of kids getting the vaccine) and a measles-like rash, which isn't contagious and fades on its own (in about about 5% of vaccinated kids).

Treatment
There is no specific medical treatment for measles. To help manage symptoms, which usually last for about 2 weeks, give your child plenty of fluids and encourage extra rest. If fever is making your child uncomfortable, you may want to give a non-aspirin fever medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Remember, you should never give aspirin to a child who has a viral illness since the use of aspirin in such cases has been associated with the development of Reye syndrome.

Kids with measles should be closely monitored. In some cases, measles can lead to other complications, such as otitis media, croup, diarrhea, pneumonia, and encephalitis (a serious brain infection), which may require antibiotics or hospitalization.

In developing countries, vitamin A has been found to decrease complications and death associated with measles infections. In the U.S., vitamin A supplementation should be considered for children between 6 months and 2 years who are hospitalized with measles and its complications. Also, all kids older than 6 months with risk factors, such as vitamin A deficiency, weakened immune system, or malnutrition may benefit from vitamin A supplementation.

When to Call the Doctor
Call the doctor immediately if you suspect that your child has measles. Also, it's important to get medical care following measles exposure, especially if your child:
*is an infant
*is taking medicines that suppress the immune system
*has tuberculosis, cancer, or a disease that affects the immune system

Remember that measles, a once common childhood disease, is preventable through routine childhood immunization.

Panas melampau = skin problem

Aduh...bila lar tahap pemanasan global ni nak berakhir. Mmg tak senang duduk dibuatnya! Utk org yg allergy peluh like me & my son...tahap panas yg teramat sgt ni mmg sgt sukar! Abes gatal2 tgn aku dibuatnya. Ziqri plak siap ngan badan sekali naik rashes. Kesian pulak dia. Last Fri adalah hari yg paling panas. The whole day Ziqri pakai pampers jer.

Saturday pegi clinic nak mintak ubat rashes utk Ziqri...skali doc bgtau dia kena measles. Sib baik lar tak teruk. Dan nasib baik dia tak demam.

Last week Ziqri food poisoning. Punya lar rajin aku buat bubur nasi + carrot + chicken...skali food poisoning. Tatau lar apa tak kena...Nak kata carrot tak basuh...mmg aku basuh. Ayam kot...First time nak bagi dia makan ayam dah food poisoning lak. Sudahnya...bagi jer nestum. Tp nestum + ikan bilis ni pon cam tak berapa serasi ngan Ziqri. Alamatnya...kena try benda lain lar pulak.

MC

Arini aku MC! Hubby pon terpaksa ler amik EL, hehehe...Tapi tetap komited update blog! Teh, kita serupa :D. Arini MC sbb sakit perut yg teramat sangat! Sampi rasa keras2 perut aku. Mlm tadi mmg tak boleh nak tido langsung. Asik berulang ke toilet jer membuang air. Dah ler ngan risau yg kat dlm tu diam jer (biasanya time aku tido ler dia aktif buat summersault kat dlm!).

Pagi tadi pegi clinic, doc kata kencing kotor. Patut ler asik nak membuang air jer kejenya...Aduh, mmg seksa rupanya kena benda nih. Sblm nih aku dgr cite org jer. Ni first time kena!

Smlm pon aku half day MC. Sakit perut gak. Cuma smlm sakit perut + cirit-birit. Tapi bila doc check perut aku dia kata nothing to worry. Yg aku patut risau is my BP! Aduh lar...kalo doc amik BP jer, mesti lar aku kena bebel. Doc tu kata, kalo dekat nak bersalin BP aku tinggi jugak, maybe aku tak boleh bersalin normal. And maybe 2 weeks b4 my EDD, dah boleh kuarkan baby.

Ari Selasa, aku ke clinic lagi. Minggu ni mmg minggu aku melawat clinic! Now, aku kena pegi check BP, air kencing & weight 2x seminggu! Bila doc amik jer BP...sure lar dia membebel, bla...bla..bla...Nasihatkan aku jgn makan pedas, masin & berminyak. Pastu doc siap tanya, aku ni kawen lambat ke? Aku kawen umur 31. Idak ler lmbt mana pon kan. Doc kate, org yg kawen lambat ni mmg selalu ada risiko BP tinggi bila pregnant. Dia pon dok cerita lar kemungkinan2 yg akan berlaku...Malas aku nak cite kat sini. Mcm scary jer dgr dia cite.

Nak buat mcm mana, dah jodoh sampai umur 31. So, moral of the story...pada yg dah ada bf tu kawen ler cepat2. Tak yah ler nak tunggu umur cecah 30 baru nak kawen. Nanti nak beranak risiko.

Dah ler family history nya kesihatan pon tak berapa nak elok. So, risiko tu lagi ler tinggi! *Sigh*.

23 December 2008

Kakiku sakit...

Yup...smlm aku MC lagi utk kesekian kalinya due to kaki ku sakit. Especially kat tumit. Terasa menyucuk-nyucuk. Ni lah akibatnya bila Sat & Sun aku berjalan dari pagi smpi ke mlm...

Nak tido pon tak lena bila kaki tu dah terasa sengal2 semacam jer. Mmg betol lar apa yg aku baca dekat website, book & magazine. Org pregnant ni mcm2 penyakit dtg. Kadang2 terfikir gak baru 3 bulan dah mcm ni..nak tunggu 9 months nanti ntah apa penyakit lagi lar yg dtg...tapi whatever it is...kena jugakla tempuh...Bukan senang nak pregnant kan...Ada yg dah kawen bertahun2 pon tak dpt baby lagi. Alhamdulillah, aku tak perlu tunggu selama itu.

Sekarang baru aku paham perasaan mak aku yg mengandungkan aku selama 9 bulan. Aku ni alhamdulillah lar takde alahan sgt. Mak aku dulu mmg teruk alahan dia. Nasib baik aku tak ikut mcm dia. Kalo tak mau TL aku tension asik MC jer, hehehe...

Setiap org yg pregnant tak sama keadaannya. Tu yg kadang2 tak paham kenapa org boleh buang jer bayi baru lahir sesuka hati! Diorg ni tak igt ke kesakitan yg ditanggung selama 9 bulan? Kalo tak nak sekali pon anak tu...jgn lar dibuang2...Bagi kat org lagi bagus.

Economy is not so good kan?

Lagi 1 yg buat aku "lama" tak update blog is b'cos I'm very bz lately with my work. Ye lah...skrg ni keje aku kat ofis tu sumanya nak kena kejar KPI. Boring betol! Actually byk lagi nak cite tapi later-later lar. Nak kejut my hubby...Jap lagi nak gi pasar malam. Bye!

Night leg cramps

or we normally called it 'simpul biawak'. Hahaha...just curious...Why the name is 'simpul biawak'...Very funny! Ok, I just wanna share with you abt this. Here are the info:

What causes night leg cramps? What can you do about them?

Answer
Night leg cramps are contractions of the leg muscles, usually in the back of the lower leg (calf). They often occur just as you're falling asleep or just as you're waking up. The exact cause of night leg cramps isn't known. Some experts believe they may be due to abnormal processing of electrolytes — essential elements and chemical substances your body needs for basic functions — by muscles. Almost everyone has occasional leg cramps. But they occur most often in older adults. Common causes of night leg cramps include:

Muscle overexertion, Prolonged sitting, Dehydration, Pregnancy, Diabetes, Decreased potassium levels, Neuromuscular disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Certain medications, such as albuterol, niacin, diuretics, and some calcium channel blockers and antipsychotic medications &
Alcohol use

If you do get a leg cramp, you may be able to make it go away by:

Walking on the affected leg
Massaging the affected muscle
Straightening your leg and flexing your foot toward your knee until you feel the calf muscles stretch
Applying a cold pack to the affected muscle
Taking a hot bath

To help prevent night leg cramps:

Drink plenty of fluids during the day.
Stretch your leg muscles before bedtime.
Get adequate potassium in your diet.
If you have frequent and severe leg cramps at night, talk to your doctor. Treatment results vary. But the most effective treatments based on current research are:
Vitamin B-12
Gabapentin
